Growing up as a kid we may have said some things that were nice, and we may have heard some not so nice things. We have all had our feelings hurt by the things that may have been said to us and at times we snapped back in defense. There may have been other moments when the words hit so deep, we still carry the wound.
Words impact our daily lives. Words either have a negative impact or a positive impact on our lives. When I talk about words, I am not only talking about the words that we hear from other people. This is also in reference to the words that we speak to ourselves and the words that we say to others.
Words can either develop and motivate you, or they can destroy and damage you.
In Proverbs 18:21 it says, “The tongue has the power of life and death …”! SPEAK LIFE!!
As we are preparing to end the year, I am challenging you to think differently. We’ll call this “The Words Matter Challenge”.
In preparation for a new year, some of us will do vision boards while others may set new year resolutions. The outcome of what you place on your vision board or a new year resolution will be based on your ability to implement and adjust to change. In order to accomplish your ultimate goal change or interruption is required.
Hmmmm… think about it! When you set out to meet a goal, be it to:
· save money
· lose weight
· start a business
· meditate
· run a marathon etc…
you must disrupt your current flow of the way you are doing things. Therefore, to meet the goal we must first understand that “DISRUPTION IS REQUIRED”. Yes, I said disruption. We tend to think of the word disruption in a negative way. However, I am going to challenge you to shift your mindset of what it takes to meet a goal. According to Webster’s dictionary, disruption means: “the act or process of disrupting something: a break or interruption in the normal course or continuation of some activity, process etc.”
What do you think? Well, when I set out on this weight loss journey, I had to interrupt my normal eating habits, which in essence is disruption. Disruption is not negative; It is the context and ultimate goal that is behind the disruption which could make one see it as negative. So yes … “DISRUPTION IS REQUIRED”!
Next, “The Word Matters Challenge” task is to speak positively over your life and the lives of those around you. Start your day with a positive affirmation. This can be the affirmation for the week or for the day, you decide. If you struggle with finding positive affirmations, I will be using the Arrivista Planner (www.arrivistaplanner.com) and their mission is to help you find, actively engage, and share your purpose. This planner is full of positive and motivating words, along with ways to help you save and help you stay on track personally and professionally.
Lastly, TRUST the PROCESS and always STRIVE to THRIVE!
